Depression in children

 It is very difficult to diagnose depression in children as they can’t express their feelings when compared to adults. Stress and lack of good family environment are the major cause for depression in children. Symptoms of Depression in Children: 1. Often they are in sorrow mood. We can observe it in their eyes. 2. Often they weep and involve in unnecessary fears and tensions. 3. They don’t like to be away from their parents. They wish to spend always with them. 4. They won’t mix with their colleagues in the school. They frequently quarrel with classmates and friends. 5. They often complain of headache, Pain abdomen, nausea, and vomiting. 6. They lose interest in playing games.  7. They are not enthusiastic. They don’t show interest in extracurricular activities. 8. They show lack of interest in education. 9. Their performance in the examinations will decline gradually. 10. They suffer from insomnia (lack of sleep) and change in food habits. 11. Due to less activity, they become overweight.  12. They cry loudly and through away articles in the hand. 13. They may indulge in Alcoholism and drugs. 14. They talk about committing suicide (danger signal). Keenly observe the children who are spending most of the time lonely. If you find any changes in your children behaviour, immediately give him Psychiatric counselling.
